GAME OF CHANCE
A FINE IMPOSED. SHOWMAN AT COUNTRY SPORTS. All OK I (AND, February 27. The playing of a game of chance at the Mangatawbiri sports on Annivoisar.v Day resulted in Edward Stockdale, alias James, being charged at the Pukekohe Police Court yesterday with operating a “spinning jenny.” Constable H. J. Olsen said defendant was playing a dart game, and during witness’ absence he began to operate the wheel. Ihe wheel "as spun and darts were thrown at its surface. Counsel said a certain amount of .skill was required to play the game. The |x>ople who played it went into the game with open eyes. Sergeant J. T. Cowan said the wheel was “faked” underneath, the canvas covering it being divided into sections, alternate ones 'being covered with iron to deflect tho darts. Mr F. H. Levi.cn, S.M., lined defendant £2 10s and 10s costs.
