(From our own Correspondent). The school’s excursion will take place next Friday when the Ross and southern schools, also Ruatapu and Mananui, will journey to Greymouth. Trains leave. |Rpss at 8,60 a.m. and leave Greymouth on jtlie return ijourney at 5.30 p.m. Given a fine day the outing should prove an enjoyable one. . Considerable interest is being taken in ‘the bye-election for a member of the Ross Borough Council, m place of Cr. A. Thompson, resigned, which takes place to-morrow. The two candidates nominated., are Messrs H. Osoiers and R. J. ’Scott. The booth is at the Coronation Hall and the polling hours are jfrom '9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Ross Sale Yards are now practically completed. The structure is very substantial, built of silver pne and totara. , The yards are commodious, and will be capable of dealing with a large amount of stock.- There is also a six acre paddock adjoining the yards f° r the convenience of stock owners. The yards should prove convenient to the southern people, also to buyers from the north. Being situated so close to the 'railhead, there will be no difficulty in having stcjck railed immediatelv after the sales. The first sale of cattle and sheep is set down for March 14th, when it is understood the entries will be verv numerous, The annual flower show and sale °l work in connection with the Anglican iChurch takes place at the. Totara Hall on Saturday next, the members of the committee are working hard to make the show even more successful than pievious ones.

We regret to state that Mr F. M. Allan is at present an inmate of the Westland Hospital, suffering lroin <i serious ilteess. It is to be hoped h» will make a, speedy recovery to good health.
