OPPOSITION TO EXTENSION. WELLINGTON Feb. 27. Considerable surprise lias been ex--pressed in Parliamentary cmlos at the decision of the Government not to accede to the requests made that the period of summer time should be extended to include the Easier holidays. It is understood that the Minister oi Internal Affairs, Mr Hamilton, had prepared a Bill tigjdve effect to an extension, and thaflihe personally was favourable to the proposal. It Is not anticipated that any real opposition to the measure would have been forthcoming, but apparently Cainnet decided it was not wise to open up what has proved to be a controversial subject during the emergency session. ft is suggested that the Government was apprehensive that endeavours would be made by a section of the House to amend the Act in other directions and this might lead to protra - debates. There are still a number of members opposed to summer time, and it would not be surprising if. during the main session, an endeavour is made to repeal the existing legislation*
