PARLIAMENT

AIR FORBES AND OPPOSITION. /ARBITRATION AMENDMENT BILL. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 27. Labour opposition, to the introduction of tile Industrial 'Conciliation Arbitration Bill, occupied tbe whole afternoon sitting in the House of Representatives, iWilen the time for the rising of the ‘House at 5.30 p.nt. arrived, -Mr Forbes moved an adjournment till 10.30 this morning. Mr 1). G. Sullivan (Lab., Avon) suggested that the- Prime Minister would be guilty of an exhibition of petty 'vindictiveness and bad temper if he insisted ion the motion. iHe knew members had engagements in their own constituencies, and ho proposed to punish them because Labour speakers had exercised their constitutional rights in a matter of vital importance. The Leader of the Opposition, Air H. Holland l , said that he was sorry that Mr Forbes had taken up a petty attitude, because no one could claim that the debate -on , the Bill had been a waste of time. If the Prime Minister's motion was an indication of the tactics which he intended to pursue, he need not be surprised if he found thousands of working men storming around the door* of Parliament Buildings. Such a development would be the direct result of such a line of action. Mr Holland assured Air Forbes that the Labour Party would employ every power of opposition -that forms of the House permitted to defeat the legislation now proposed. Labour members continued to discuss the motion until a division was reached at 7 p.m., the motion being carried bv 33 to 24.

Atr lit, .A imo re (1iX.1., Kelson) and All- G, C. Black (Tad,, Mottit-ka), joined •the Labour members, voting against the motion. 1

The House rose at 7.5 p.nt. till 18.30 this morning.
