OXLEY BEATS SIMONSEN. NELSON, February 25. It appears that the report that. Constable Lake stopped the professional contest at Takaku between Tex Oxley and Jim Simonson, was not strictly correct, from statements made by various parties. It appears that the constable was making inquiries to the extent of Simonson’s injuries, consisting of a cut over his eye. This was resented by Simonson’s second who ended all the arguments by throwing in the towel. The general opinion is that the light would have gone the full distance, with only the winner on points.
