KOKATALII SALE. The annual Summer Sale of surplus stock conducted by W. Jeffries and Co. was held yesterday in the above yards. The entry was a very extensive one comprising 209 head of cattle, 10 pigs, 8 rams and 7 fat sheep, which were offered to a good 'attendance of buyers. Competition was -distinctly on a much i improved scale and it was evident that graziers anticipated' a return to better prices for stock within a short period. In , arriving at this conclusion they were guided by the fact that copious rams I had recently fallen in Canterbury 'and increases could be looked for at , the markets there. As a result prices , were up for all classes of stock with the exception of old cows of wJncii ,there were several pens. These however changed hands at ' varying prices apparently satisfactory to the vendors. A pen of fat 2 tooch wethers for Air R. Houliston macro 18s while the same vendor topped the market with a pen of fine steers ,i which realised £9. On the whole the confidence of those operating seemed justified and good lines met spirited' competition.
The following are the range of prices.—Weaner calves from 15s to 21s 6d, Yearling mixed sexes 23s to 50s, 18 mos. to- 2 year steers £2 10s, £3, £3 10, £3 17s Gd, 2 to 2* years steers £5 os, £0 ss, £G 10s, £7, 3yr. steers £7 ss, £7 10s, £8 12s 6d, £9. Heifers 2yrs. £2 10s, £3, £3 7s Cxi. Fat and forward cows £3 7s 6d, £2 16s, £2s 3s, £3 10s, £4, £4 ss, £4 12s Gd, £5 sis, £5 12s Gd. ' Springers to £7 15s. Bulls 15s to £3. Weaner pigs 10s to 20s Gd. Two tooth Roinp-v rams £4 4s, £3 3s, £1 15s, £1 10s. Fat wethers 18s.
The most of the yarding was quitted 11 above prices.
ADDINGTON STOCK SALK. CHIOSTCHITETI, February 21. At the Addington sales today a small yarding of store sheep, of better grades showed a rise in values; otlicJA grades although .showing no appreciable rise in price, sold more freely. There was a medium yarding of fat sheep, mostly ewes of unattractive quality. The best wethers were a few pence better. Choice ewes .showed a rise on recent rates. Extra heavy prime wethers sold to |os 10(1, prime heavy 17 s to 18s, prime 15s to 16s 6d. medium 13s to 14s 6d, light from 11s. Rest heavy ewes •sold V.o 15s 4(1, prime heavy 13s to 14s .prime 10s to 12s, medium 7s to 9s, light from 4s. There was a smaller yarding of fat lambs. Recent rates were above schedule. Prime heavy lambs sold to 21s jfld, prime (16s - 6d it<> 18s 6d. medium 13-< to 16s. light from 9s 6d. There was a medium yarding of store lambs. Values showed a slump advance, childly or. the best consignments. There was a smaller yarding of fat cattle. North Island and Westland consignments comprised the pick of the entry. There was a brighter sale with an appreciable rise on ail classes, ha ml iweighls selling especially well. Ibavy steers sold to £l2 12s 6d ; prime £8 15s 6d .to £9 l'ss ; handi weights L'6 10s to '£7 17s 6d medium £4 7,s 6.1 to Co 5s ; inferior from £4 6s. Best heavy heifers .sold to £9 17a 6d ; prime £6 os to £7 15s ; medium PA 15s to £5 ss; best cows .sold To £8 12s 6d ; prime £4 15s to £5 15s ; inferior from £2.
Fat pigs were easier and there was a longer entry. Choppers were easier. Porkers brought 27s 6.1 to 31s 6d. heavier 32s 6tl to 3'ls 6d, choppers 30s to j£4 ’Bs 6d, bin-oners 37s 6d to 42s 6d, 'heavier 47s 6d to } 6d,
