WAITAKI POWER. (Py Telegraph — I'er Press Association) WELLINGTON, Fep. 21. There is a decided .possibility that the Waitnki hydro-electric works will be shut down indefinitely, as the result of the decision of the Government to etleet a. drastic curtailment of all public works. The Al i nister for Public Works, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Uontes, will make a statement on the* whole position in the Hi use of Representatives soon after it meets, and the Departmental head, Air F. \V. Fiirkci't , is now drawing up plans for the future. .Present information is that Waitnki will most likely dose down.
