PROTEST MEETING FAILS

As the result of a recent decision of the To Kiiiti Borough Council in supporting a propositi that an art union he organised to raise funds for an aerodrome tor the town, a largo gathering ol citizens held an indignation meeting in the Empress Theatre after church hist night. The meeting was presided over by Air H. Hint', a former Mayor, and speeches were delivered declaring the action of the council ill-advised arm ill-considered.
“The Mayor and councillors have unleashed this monster amongst its, and I consider their action most reprehensible,’’ declared the Rev. Mr Sussex (Methodist). The Rev. E. R. E Ross (IVesbvleri;in) said the Christian Church had nut taken the stand it should on the qne<lion of gambling.
Questions from the audience showed a divergence of opinion. “Everything we do is a risk, and till business is ,v gamble,” suggested one. Mr Ross; (fumbling takes mono,' front productive' channels, giving no return for useful service rendered. Mr Sussex moved flint the council he asked to review its decision.
