MEETING OF PROPRIETORS.

TRIBUTE TO CHAIRMAN.

AUCKLAND, ' February 16

The conference held in Auckland of the Newspaper" Proprietors’ Association and United Press Association and the New Zealand section of the Empire Press Union concluded to-day. At a full gathering at which the delegates were the guests of Mr H. Horton, of Auckland, a presentation was made to Mr C. XV. Earle, of Wellington, in recognitioh of his eleven years’ honorary and valuable work as President of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association.

The presentation took the form of a silver salver and cheque in order that he might add to it other pieces of plate in accordance with the taste of Mrs Earle and himself. Tributes to Mr Earle were paid by Messrs H. Horton, A. M. Burns, W. C. Weston and A. McNicol. Mr Earle said there was no justification for the gift, except thenown generous hearts. The Chairman’s motion' for adoption of the report nad balance sheet of the Press Association was seconded by Mr T. C. List .(New Plymouth), who said the directors hnd served the interest of the whole of the papers in New Zealand, The motion was carried. Sir Cecil Leys and Mr H. Horton were re-elect* ed members of tlie Board u» representatives of the metropolitan papers, Messrs J. Cooinbe arid P. H. Billons (Palmerston North) were appointed to the Board as representatives of tho provincial press. Next annual meeting of the Association will be held at Rotorua. Sir Cecil Leys was elected Chairman of Directors for a year
