For failing to pay unemployment levies, D, Chisholm appeared in the Magistrate's Court yesteruay on two charges, and that being in rece'pt of wages, he d : d fail to pay the amount set out in section 4 of the Act. Chisholm pleaded not guilty to each charge. It was stated that the levy had since been paid. Defendant was ordered to pay costs on each charge.
Mr M. C, McGregor, who went on to Westport from Hokitika, flew his Spartan aeroplane over the Lewis Pass, on the trip from Westport to Christchurch on Tuesday. The trip took little less than two hours, and the pilot did not find it necessary to go higher than 2800 feet. Mr McGregor will leave Christchurch shortly for Invercargill where he will take part in the air pageant. He will .probably spend a week in Southland.
Two and a 'half hours were occupied in the Warden's Court yesterday in consideration of an application by the Mayor and Councillors of the Borough of Boss for a water race. The application was sought by Mr J. Murdoch, Mr A, It, jTTloock r.ippeareng for obieettuvs. Kxtensive evidence was taken, the application linally being granted, judgment bein'/ given fo" coses, £'s 6s, against the objectors. Mr Elcoek gave notice of appeal at the conclusion. Summing up, flu* Warden said that:'tile local body appeared to have a stronger case than if an individual were appearing. The application appeared to be quite in order, and 'was tendered by a public body who were serving public purposes, not private, and he could -sec no reason why the application should not be granted.

At the meeting of the Grey Hospital Board last evening, from among 156 applications, Mr Janies E. A. McKeefrey, of Christchurch, was the successful applicant for the position of Managing Secretary to the Board.
The Gael on leaving O'kuru on Wednesday went off to Jackson. Bay, where 350 sheep were taken on boarct, and then went on to Greymouth where they were discharged, the vessel returning to Hokitika last night at 6.30, Should the bar at Okarito be workable the Gael will probably sail for that port to-night.

The death took place yesterday of J\ ex-cabinet Minister, Mr Everest Page Lee at the age of 69 years. He was Minister of Justice of the last Massey Ministry, and was one of the best known legal practitioners in the South Island. His death occurred at Queenstown as the result of a seizure.

Tlie Maori Choir, of whom there were very favourable recollections paid another welcome visit to Hokitika last night, appearing at the Princess Theatre before a large and appreciative audience. The opening was a welcome extended by Mrs Knowles Smith, and acknowledged by the party in true Maori fashion. Then following in rapid succession a series of hymns and part songs, poi dances, hakas, Maori songs, instrumental music, and an address by the lady in charge. The programme, which lasted a full two hours, was a very bright and versatile one, and proved very enjoyable, the audience marking their approval in marked terms and demanding ljianv encores which were freely given.
