At tbc late meeting of the Rorollgh Council, sonic concern was lolt about tlm condition of the water snpnly. If will be recalled that some oighteen months or .-.o ago. the Council which had at cumulated a considerable sum

out of revenue, was aide to iay down

a section ( f the pipe line from the lake in in •mam , nl material. This

work is pruning sat islaclorv and has encouraged the Mayor (Mr Pcrrvt to suggest, that in the coming (inancfnl year, .'mother seehion he attempted. The proposal is a wise one for the time may pot be far distant when the

auxiliary supply from the power water race may be lost. But apart from that contingency, the main supply down the Lake road is not proving too reliable, and it is believed if syphon sections of the Line could lie eliminated, a much better flow would result. This appeal’s- to he -in the mind of the Council, and a serious effort at replacement will he made. This action would mean all round economy in Borough works for the revenue- is restricted, and as far as can he gathered it is not the intention to increase the annual rates. Of late- a good deal of civic improvement has been going on, but this will need to be curtailed. The ratepayers no doubt wi 1 he satisfied to trust to the good sense of the -Council as a whole in this matter. The work in mind is one- that cannot he neglected, or in later times a larger expenditure might he sprung on the people. The water supply service is too serviceable to the community as a- whole to allow it to deteriorate, and the- -Mayor is on the right lines in turning the attention of the Council to the important work before it. No doubt all data as to cost will he collected, and the Council he guided to 'use the available funds to the best advantage.
