PICTON MURDER
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. WOUNDS NOT SELF INFLICTED. (By Telegraph — Be. Press Association) BLENHEIM, February 4. Coroner E. J. Hill held to day the adjourned inquest into the deatli of Janies Flood, an old man, 75 years of age, who lived alone in his whare in Picton, and who was found dead with his throat cut on November sth. last on the floor of his whare with the door locked and the key mis-sing. No weapon was found near the body. The medical evidence disclosed that, on the left side of deceased head, the skull was fractured, and the throat was cut in such a manner that only some muscle tissues and the skin at the back of the neck remained intact. The Coroner said that the medical evidence showed that the injuries could not have been self-inflicted. The wounds were of such a ferociuos nature as to leave no doubt that they were the result of a murderous attack. The verdict would he that the deceased died from extensive wounds in the throat and a fracture of the skull; such wounds having been inflicted by some person or persons unknown.
