Major Shancl, member of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales for the Hornsby electorate, who is on his first visit to the Dominion, expressed himself ip an interview as being profoundly impressed by the mannei m which New Zealand had been endowed by Nature. There were great possibilities here for industrial expansion, he said, particularly with the wonderful water power at command. This must be a great factor in the future development of industries throughout New Zealand. From a scenic standpoint he had seen nothing to compare with the sights one could see touring in New Zealand. His opinion was that the time "'as not tardistant when there would he a wonderful tourist pilgrimage to this land. At the present time exchange, operating to the disadvantage of Australians, prevented many oi them irom vikiting here, but that would adjust itself when conditions in Australia improved. He thought New Zealand would have to follow the example oi either Australia or Britain in overcoming difficulties ip finance. The position in Australia had improved immensely in the last three jacinths by go axon of the increased prices being realised for wool and wheat, and there was an upward tendency for all fine merino wools. M heat had improved to the extent of Is 2d per bushel compared with last season’s product. Major Sliand stated, and this means a large increase in income from primary products.
