MAGISTRATE’S COURT
SITTING AT HOKITIKA. A BRIEF LIST OF CHARGES. There was a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Hokitika, this morning before Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M. John Lincoln was charged with a breach of his prohibition order. Evidence given by Sergeant C. J. King, showed that defendant-had been found in the Mahinapua Hotel. Defendant was fined Cl a»d costs 10/-. Charge Dismissed. Found on the premises of the Pioneer Hotel after hours, a defendant admitted being on the premises, but pleaded not guilty. The excuse given was that lie went in to use the telephone. The Magistrate accepted defendant’s evidence and dismissed the case. A charge of a breach of his prohibition order was preferred against a first offender, who did not appear, He | ”-'s convicted and ordered to pay costs 10/-, Charge of Assault. A charge of assault was preferrd against Horace Chesney, but was deferred until February IS, Breaches of Fisheries Act. ' r| clui'-'tes of breaches of the Fisheries Act were brought by Sergt. King, Inspector of Fisheries, but they ' were adjourned. By-Law Breaches. A rharee of driving a heavy lorry without having a license against G. Bansgrove was deferred. Fines of allowing stock to wander were imposed as follows: C. Coyle, 5/aiifl costs 1 5/6: W. Paseoe. 5/-, and costs 20/6; H. W. R. Sweney, of- and I costs 20/6. | W. Mclv, Harcourt was charged with , failing to comply with the require- j ments of his maintenance order. | Murdoch said that defendant seldom paid until the summons was is- j sued. The Magistrate issued an order for the payment of arrears, in default two months’ imprisonment. Civil Cases. Judgment by default was given cu the case of |). p Stuart v, P, \V.
