SUICIDE OF GIRL
FOUND LIFE UNCONGENIAL,
PALMERSTON N., Jan. 26
“This is a sad case. I think that it is quite apparent ithat the' girl was unhappy at home. How much can be attributed to her environment or how much to her disposition‘l cannot say, but I am of the opinion that she found farm life uncongenial after livinj|Tin the town,” said Mr A. J. Graham, district coroner, ait this morning’s inquest into the’ circumstances of tlie death of Norma Lucy Corley, wfto committed shicide by .'throwing herself in tlie Manawatu River. '
“Reading- between the lines of the note left by deceased, it seems ' ttiiaf a remark passed by her -sister to the effect that it was a pity "she had come homfe' had been impressed upon her memory, and she was in need of a mother’s carfe. ’ In the absence of a mother, she made up her mind to end her own Life,” added Mr Graham.
Deceased had attended the , speedway meting on the night of January 13 and was not seen or heard of thereafter until her body was found floating in the Manawaltu River at Opiki on Sunday morning. ’ • :
Vincent Harold Hofmann, a. Labourer employed by deceased's .father, said that he had found a note on ; the doorstep of Miss Corley’s residence../in, rVlilich deceased intimated her intern tion of 'taking' her life, as she was unhappy. “Life isn’t worth living without a motlier,” she' added in the mote.
