MR DAVID McKAY

The death is announced of Mr David McKay, aged 60 years, after a long illness. He was President of the Grey Howling Club,

The deatli of Mr David McKay removes one of the foremost figures in Greymouth. He was a son o, Mr Andrew McKay, a former well-known contractor of Greymouth and in his younger days joined the firm of Forsyth and Masters, later becoming a member of the linn ,and on the death of Mr It. Forsyth,' securing the whole interest. Some years ago lie sold out his interest to Ashby Iferg and Co. (who have since carried on the busin gs) and then retired from active business

Mr McKay was a well known sport. He was a centre figure of the Grey Football Club in the nineties, and played forward and bull hack, and was a, representative of the West Coast on several occasions. He was a hard worker in the scrum and a very heady player in any position. He also took part in cricket and represented the Coast on Victoria Park against “Plum” Warner’s ream. As a member of the

Grey Bowling Club, and secretary of the West Coast Centre, Mr McKay was very successful in furthering the best interest of howling in the district. He was a solid player and had many successes at Coast gatherings. He had a severe illness several months ago and had not recovered therefrom, his health for some time past causing his friends mpcli anxiety. He Jeaves g widpw (who at present is suffering from burns received just before, the New Year, and who will be some months before she fully recovers therefrom) two daughters nd a son. Mr James McKay, Dr. McKay of Greymouth, and Mr George McKay (North Island) are brothers, and there are two sisters, one being Mis Bow. Very general regret will be felt at the passing of the deceased. He was a fine citizen and a great sport from his early days onward, and in howling circles was one of the most popular of players in the district. Very general sympathy will be extended to his widow, family and relatives in their sad loss.
