GRETNA’S SMITH. VALUE OF MARRIAGE TRADE. LONDON. January 15. The flourishing business done at the famous blacksmith’s shop at Gretna Green caused the Dumfrieshire committee to increase the valuation from £3B to £SOO. Blacksmith Fennison appealed to the Court, which further increased the valuation to £765. Evidence showed that the revenue for 1931 from admissions an c j the sale of souvenirs was £3OOO. Weddings over the anvil averaged 300 annually. Fennison said he asked a fee of £l. and usually received 7/6, but sometimes got nothing.
