DEER SHOOTING

STALKER INJURED. TRYING JOURNEY TO TOWN. ASHBURTON, January 22? While out shooting deer near Stronsclmthie Station yesterday, a youth. Allan Bray, a son of Mr A. Bray, of Tarn-red .-street, was accidentally shot ' in the shoulder. He was brought into Ashburton, where he received medical attention. Bray, with three other youths, Wilkie (2) and Wilson, was camped near the station. He was about eight miles from the camp when the accident happened. As he was clambering over a rocky face, his rifle, ft .303, which was slung over his shoulder, struck a rock and accideiically discharged, the bullet penetrating his left shoulder between the arm and the neck. As the point of the bullet was nicked so that it would open out when it struck a deer it inflicted a serious wound in the muscles of Bray’s neck. The party were provided with a first aid outfit and rendered immediate ass'stance, but they had to travel eight miles back to camp over rougn country. Mr T. S. Johnstone drove the injured stalker a. little over seventy miles to Ashburton, reaching Mr Bray’s home shortly before one o’clock this morning, when the injured man received medical attention. Ho was reported this evening to he making satisfactory progress.
