The New York "Herald-Tribune’s” rasing editor, discussing Phar Lap, says that the contemplated test race should prove “An excellent test of the horse’s form on a dirt track. One real race is worth a dozen work-outs.” The editor adds. It will surprise none if Phar Lap is also entered for many of the big Eastern handicaps, which have not vet closed.” He discusses the differences between the Australian and the American racing mile. Whereas the Australian mile is said to be 1760 yards on the rail, the mile in America is ulna 1760 yards, but this is at two feet out from the rail. PLUCKY" PLAY NOT TO RACE. SAN DIEGO, January 22. At Ague CaT.ente, racing officials report that the owners of Plucky Play, haw decided that the horse shall not take part in a special race for Phar (Lap, as cabled on January 21st; but assurances have been received that Doctor Freeland will participate, and the officials say that the race will be run ovui if there are but two entrants.
