After occupying tlie position of president of the Auckland Racing Uub tor nearly thirty years, Sir Edwin Mitchelson has Lauded in his msignntion to tilt committee, and a special meeting will he held next week to consider whether they will accept it or not. In his earlier days, Sir Edwin was actively engaged in hoige racing, and was one of a syndicate of throe trno forundiod (the first stud farm in the Dominion'. ■£> vend good liorsca which raced successfully both in Now Zealand and! Australia, were hied at this stud. ' Sir Edwin has been associated with tJ-'o Auckland Racing Club for just on fifty years, and much of the cfiirrs success and progress is due to his great interest and administrative ahilrty. During hi« king membership, he has held office as judge, steward, committeeman, vice president, and president. The beautiful gardens at Kllorslie, which are a feature of the city, are almost wholly due to Sir Edwin’s expert botanical knowledge. j The club paid him a unique tribute when, in 1920, bis bust in bron/.e, executed by the eminent Australian sculptor, Sir Bertram Mackennal, was ini veiled on the lawn at Ellers lio.
