MR D. JONES. AGAIN CHAIRMAN. {By Telegraph—Per. Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, .January 19. Mr David Jones lias liven re-ap-pointed as Chairman of the Meat Producers’ Board. His re-election took place at meeting of that body that was held last Wednesday. Mr Thomas A'. Duncan, of Huntorville, who was Chairman since October, resigned, and in tendering his resignation, Mr Duno.'n said he regretted Mr Jones had been defeated at the elections, As no man had done more for producers in New Zealand, lie expressed the opinion that Mr Jones should be Chairman of the Board once again, and accordingly wished jo resign the position to nominate him. Mr Jones was unanimously elected to the Chairmanship. AUSTRALIAN MEAT. IN POOR DEMAND AT LONDON. LONDON, January 19. The outlook on the London market for Australian Dozen beef and mutton is not a promising one, according to Mr J. Davis, a leading exporter, who has returned to Sydney from England. He said: “The London market is glutted with supplies of frozen beef and mutton. The main difficulty in disposing of stocks is the reduced nurchasinS power of the public in Britain. New Zealand Canterbury lamb,” be added, “is always in quest.” Mr Davis emphasised that the British meat interests had a poor opinion of Australian mutton, the quality of which was inferior to that of the Argentine produce. The same applied to beef. The Australian breeders must improve their methods by the selection of suitable stock.
