THE GOVERNMENT GUARANTEE
EXPORT OK FRUIT. INDUSTRY TO REAR PORTION OF R KSPONSIRILITY. WELLINOTON, January 18. With one important exception the Government guarantee on fruit exports for the 1932 season has been renewed on almost exactly the same basis, according to an official .statement by the New Zealand Fruit Export Control .Board to-day. This year, however, exporters must contribute one penny halfpenny a case for all fruit exported under guarantee, and this levy will be drawn on by the Government to meet all claims arising out of market and transportation losses. s The Government guarantee is renewed on the basis of 11s a case for extra fancy and fancy' grades d.f the more important varieties. A Aum of 7s a case will be guaranteed for extra fancy and fancy grades of less important varieties and for good grades of all varieties. The only exception relate s to 'Stunners, on which the guarantee will be Us a case only until April 30. On Stunners sorted for export on and after May 1 the guarantee will be 7s a case, irrespective of grade. The guarantee will only apply to approved varieties which are shipp d from New Zealand on or before May 25. A COXD.TIOX. The Government makes the giiaran tee conditional upon each exporter contiibuting one penny halfpenny a case for all fruit .exported under guarantee. This levy will be paid into a central fund which will be utilised by the Government to meet all claims arising from market and transportation losses; (ff the fund is not fully utilis e! the Government will determine how th? ' balance will 'be disposed. If the fund is not sufficient the Government will bear the rest of the expense that might b,o involved. In other words, where the Government in the past undertook the full responsibility of the guarantee it is now asking the industry to bear a portion.
