"You go into a tobacconists' shop, you plant down your money, and voi get on ounce of tobacco,’’ bawled an anti-tobacco crank, addressing a M hiteC'hnpcl (London) audience, "yes, and yon get more my friends! lor in tin wake of that ounce of tobacco com. bier, whiskey, gin and— "Lnmme. shouted isomohody, " oo s ycr terb.icconist, guvnor?" (Roars ol laughter). But joking apart it's a tact that many never touch liquor. As to the haruifulness of smoking, it all depends on the tobacco. Brands there arc. quite unsafe to smoko habitually—foul with nicotine. Ihe imported goods aie mostly like that. Our New Zealand tobaccos on tile contrary arc practically free from the poison, because they ore toasted. Toasting is a wonderful piiri'lirr, and imparts to the leal tile ttlavour and aroma that has made X.Z. tobacco world-famous. There are four brand s only of toasted: Rivet-head Gold, Navy (ut No. 3, Cavendish and Cut Plug No. 10. But their success has brought out imitations. Take care what von buy!—Advt.
