A “ROAD HOG”

CAR PUSHED OVER BANK

AUCKLAND, January 13,

Struck by a passing motor-car on a narrow road near Pakatai, twenty-five miles from Kaikohe,' a party of Auckland motorists in a car drivn by Mr J. B. King, crashed ov*r a sixty-loot bank at mid-day on Monday. The career of the car down the bank was arrested by a tree, otherwise it would have crashed 20(J feet. The five members ui the party, including two women, hail an amazing escape from serious injury. .

Mr King and his party, which included Mr A. B. Adams, of Auckland, a Mj- Manson, of Whangarei and two women passengers, ol' Auckland, were on their way back from Ninety Mile Beach, They passed another car on a narrow stretch 8f road • and thenvehicle was struck by the motorist, who was travelling towards Kaikohe. Air King’s car soon got out of control and crashed down the hank. Not even a window was broken. The utner motorist, it is stated, drove on without stopping.

Mr King’s car was being followed at a mile’s distance by the Auckland Automibile Association’s car, driven by Chief Patrol Bert Coltinan. One of the official timekeepers for Mr Smith was also in the car. As they rounded a bend they just missed colliding with the car which had been responsible for sending Air King’s ear over the bank, but at that stage they did not know ol tile accident. They mentioned at the time that the man was a “road hog.” After two hours of hard work, Art King s car was got back on to the road by a lorry, using a block and tackle.
