UNFORTUNATE ERROR
handwriting mistaken. RADIO LISTENERS’ PETITION.. TLMARU, January 12. When the question of assisting in the elimination of electrical interference which spoilt radio reception came befor the South Canterbury Power Board to-day, Mr G. Dash recalled that he had introduced petitions from radio listeners in Geraldine and Waimate asking that attention be given to the matter. He said that the heading to the Waimate petition had been handed to him in a rough form so lie had written it at the foot of the petition. The Engineer-Secretary had written to the District Radio inspector and stated in his letter that the main complainant appeared to lie the postmaster at Waimate, Mr Brown, whose signature appeared on the petition, Mr Morrison had mistaken the handwriting, considering that the annotation on the petition was written by Mr Brown. Jn his letter Mr Morrison said the annotation was contrary to fact and not conducive to good feeling between the board and listeners. “It was unfortunate that Mr Morrison wrote as he did, for the postmaster’s writing is not in the least like mine,” said Mr Dash. “The postmaster lias had a rap over the knuckles for something about which he knows nothing. He signed the petition as a private individual and he had nothing to do with the annotation which I copied out at this table.”
Mr Dsah moved that the district radio inspector be informed that, the reference to the postmaster at Waimnto made in the board’s letter was made without the knowledge or instructions of the board and that the statement was regretted as the postmaster was r.ot the writer of the matter attributed to him by the secretary-engineer. Mr C. J. Talbot agreed that an unfortunate mistake had been made and the postmaster unjustly accused. He seconded the motion.
The Mr J. Kennedy, said he doubted whether a motion was necessary. It would fit the case if the en-gineer-secretary wrote apologising to the postmaster, lie added. Air Dash was of the opinion that that also should be done and the motion was passed.
