LADIES SUCCESS. fßy Telegraph —Per Press Association ; The New South Wales ladies’ ttemiis team commenced a match here this afternoon against a South Island team, a n d proved a delightful exhibition of the game. Rain com-menced-to fall about one o’clock, a.nd play, which wa-s to have started at \wo o’clock, was delayed till 4.30 o’clock, by which time the weather bad cleared, and tbe asphalt courts were sufficiently dry. The match will lie concluded to-morrow morning, after which the visitors will proceed to Dunedin- The results of to-day’s matches were: Singles: Miss Hall (N.S.W.) beat Miss Melvin (Invercargill) 6—2, 6—3; Doubles: Misses Valkenburg and Hall (N.S.W.) beat Mrs W. A. Scott (Timaru) and Miss Wake (Christchurch) 6-3, 6—5; Misses Lloyd and Hartigan (N.S.W.) beat Misses Melvin and Guest (Invercargill) 6—5, 6—4.
