WHEAT PREFERENCE
GOVERNMENT PROPOSAL. ESTABLISHMENT 'OF SYSTEM. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January ’ll. It is understood that in their modified form, the Government’s proposals for -the establishment of .a wheat quota system will be acceptable to the various interests concerned. Sir John Gilmour will meet representatives of the farmers, millers, merchants and flour importers to discuss the matter to-mor-row.
'Such alterations as have been made in the original proposals do not affect the Government’s basic principle of a guaranteed market for millable wheat at an enhanced price. If an agreement is reached as the outcome of to-morrow’s conference, the -Government will probably introduce a Bill socm after Parliament re-assembles.
