CROQUET
S.I. TOURNEY. (By Telegraph —Per Press A ssociationj TIMARU, January 8. The Smith Island croquet championship tournament is fast drawing to a close. Since the opening of the tournament, the players have been favoured with fine weather, and the greens have been in excellent order. The play has generally been of a high standard, and a number of interesting contests have been staged. Two finals were decided to-day, tbe first being the Championship Doiiiue-s which were won by A. G. F. Ross (Christchurch), and Mr® Corbet (Dunedin), who defeated R,. W. MeCreath (Gore) and Mrs Quinn (Invercargill) 26-21. The Championship Singles were also won by Ross, who beat Mrs Corbet 26-0, 26-20. Ross completed the first game in 35 minutes, giving a fine display. The finals of the handicaps events have yet to be played.
