An Inquest \Va,s opened yesterday afternoon, and adjourned, concerning the death of Russell Albert Howes, lp, who died on Thursday night at his father’s residence, The evidence showed that deceased, who was a wireless expert, was in the bathroom, when liis father heard a cry and a crash, and found deceased gasping, apparently in a faint. Deceased had apparently been shaving in the bath. He was using a portable light, which proved defective, and which he must have touched with a wet hand. HIGH SCHOOL GIRL DROWNED. OAMURA, January 10. While bathing in the Kakanui River, at Gemmell’s Crossing this morning, Joyce Fraser, aged 13 years, a High School girl, suffered an apparent seizure and sank. Her body was recovered a few minutes later, but artfieial respiration proved unavailing. NAZIS AGAINST REPARATIONS. LONDON, January 8. The “Daily Telegraph's” Berlin correspondent says that Hitler stated lie was making his support conditional on the virtual repudiation of the reparations clauses of the Versailles Treaty, apparently in the form of a unanimous •resolution bv the A Reichsftag to the effect that Germany will never again be in a position to pay reparations. BEQUESTS TO BE CONTESTED. VANCOUVER, January 8. A Victoria message states that Evelyn Margaret Hall, an English girl, when about to sail from England for Victoria, became a companion of Alexander Stephen, her uncle's friend. Wlun Stephen was awarded an 18,000 dollars estate by the British Columbia Supreme Court, ho made a will and left her the estate if. she proved a good companion, but otherwise left it to public charities. The latter bequest is to be contested. RADI()-PHONE COMRINE. LONDON, January 8. The Gramophone Company, Mat’, conis' Coy., the Columbia Coy., the British Coy., the Thompson Coy., the •Houston Cov., and other big manufacturing interests have pooled their patents for the qadio gramophone in view of the restriction placed on foreign imports.
