DESPITE DIFFICULT YEAR. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 8. Despite the difficult problems .presented during the past year, Lloyd’s, 'Barclays', National Provincial, and Westminster Banks (four members sf the 'Big Five in British banking) -who so far have announced the 1931 results, show highly satisfactory statements. Lloyd’s result was made known today. The total dividend on "A" shares was 15 |per cent, for the year, less tax. Barclay's maintained 14 per cent, dividend on >“B*’ shares. Westminster made a distribution for the year of 18 per cent, and the National Provincial 16 per cent. On the iStock 'Exchange, bank shares continue very strong. Gold is quoted at 120 s 4d. Regarding the banks’ profits reported in the wireless message, the remaining member of the Big Five, the Midland Bank, has declared a dividend ol sixteen per cent., as compared with eighteen per cent, last year.
