OBITUARY

PATRICK FITZG KRALD. The death of Mr Patrick Fitzgerald of Kumara, which took place at his residence yesterday afternoon removes a well known and popular figure in the district. The deceased was born at Wangarella, Victoria 62 years ago and was the second son of the late Mr and Mrs M. Fitzgerald of Wainihinihi, and had been in New Zealand since he was 4 years of ag.. He joined the service of the Public Works Department 44 years ago and retired therefrom last year, when a very popular demonstration was given him showing the esteem in which he was held by the community. “Paddy" was a very popular figure, and in -the course of his visits to all parts of Westland a s Road Overseer, he made many friends wiio 'will deplore the death of one who was honored for his integrity and hospitality. He leaves to mourn his loss two sons, 'Michael, of the P. and T. 'Department, Wellington, and Gerhard, of the Public Works Department, Kumara, and a daughter, Eileen, living at home. His wife predeceased him ten years ago. He is survived by three brothers, James and Garrett, of Wainihinihi, and .Michael o! Otira, and ilirce sisters, Mrs Griffen, of Wainihinihi. and Mrs Campbell, and Miss Julia Fitzgerald, Blackball, who will have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement-. The funeral leaves Ids late residence, Secl.km Street, Kumara. a- 2.30 p.m. to-morrow (Sunday) (January 10th, for St. Patueks Church, ami thence to Kiunara Cemetery.
