Y.M.C.A. TRAMPING CLUB. PARTY NEARING MOUNT COOK. ' ’ ’ CHRISTCHURCH, January 6. The Y.M.C.A. Tramping CUib’s l°ug trek from Christchurch to Mount Coon, via the West Coast glaciers and the Copland Pass, is nearing its end. The party, consisting of 26, undei the leadership of Mr C. G. Pegg, director of physical education at tim Christchurch Y.M.C.A. left for Hokitika on the morning of Christmas Day. The party was at Welcome Flat yesterday evening, and i,s expected to reach The Hermitage, Mount Cook, today. The weather at Mount Cook yesterday was wet, but the conditions were not such as to cause any anxiety.

To-day’s programme is Flat to Douglas Kook, six miles' walk, Douglas llock to head of valley, tour miles’ walk; head of vadey to summit of Copland Pass, ■ 2CCGft climb, snow and rock; summit of Copland Pass to Hooker Hut, descent 3000 ft, snow and rock; Hooker Hut to The Hermitage, seven miles’ walk; total, 18£ miles. The party is expected to reacu Cnristchurch on Thursday evening.
