PALMERSTON N./ January Shortly after one ' o’clock, a pas-i sen per on the southbound' Nnpier-Wel-lington express, David l‘ox, single, aged 31, jumped from the platform of a carriage and was killed instantly. Fox was' a patient at the Porirua Mental Hospital. He had been on leave for Christinas with relatives in Hastings. He was returning to the institute. He was accompanied by his brother-in-law. When the train left Palmerston North the deceased expressed his de-, sire to leave the' stuffy' carriage, and he did so. his relative going with him. However, immediately he reached''-the platform, he dived down between ’thd carriages and was mangled by--the wheels.
