The telegram indicates terrible havoc. among the Chinese lorees, which were shelled by armoured cars, devastated by aeroplane attacks, compelling a disorderly retreat. “We learn that the Government intends punishing our commanders for their inability to hold Cliinchow, but flesh and blood cannot stand more when even the Government deserts us,” states the telegram.
