The death occurred at 7 o’clock last evening at the Grey River Hospital of .Monica, Suddens. of Blaketown, 'after an illness Justing foi" seven months. A party of Hover Scouts of the Linwood" Troop had an eventful trip over the Christmas holidays. Leaving Christchurch on Boxing morning they took the train to the Boa ley quarry, and from thence walked to Carrington hut, and over the Harman and Whitehorn passes where a rough crossing was made in thick sleet. Lie PiU’k Milford hut was the next stop, and the party then went up the Wilber force and over the Browning Pass. From the Pyramid hut they worked their way down to Kanieri and then op to Hokitika, arriving here on Thursday afternoon. The hoys found the cold a terrible factor to contend with, and at times were afraid to stop for a meal for fear the cold would overpower them. The trip was enjoyed nevertheless and is considered by them to he an experience which is without equal in any of the long walks, which are numerous, that they have undertaken. Throughout the trip they were guided by maps and without which they say that they could not have made the crossing. The party left this afternoon for Grey moil til.
