Bomb squads immediately rushed to protect these threatened. The postal officials are caicfully examining the mails in order to prevent any further trouble.

Among the Fascist supporters, to whom packages had been adre-sed were the Italian Consul-General, Signor Grazzi, of New York; two other Consuls and an Arg’ntine official; the Editor of the Itnlo-American news paper “II Progresso,” and a prominent manufacturer and political figure Mr Generoso Pope, and others. WASHINGTON, Dee. 31. Almost hysterical feats have been aroused by the delivery o£ the bomb packages cabled on December 3tb, particularly following the delivery today bv railway express of a dynamite bomb marked ‘Vlver spoons” to Count Buzzi Grandenigo, Italian Consul-General at Cleveland, the sender’s name thereon being that of the Consul’s close friend in New York. Senor Brandenigo, immediately made a trunk line telephone call, and when he learned that no package had been sent by his friend, the police were summoned. m The box was taken to a rifle range, where it was exploded with a long-distance rifle shot. It bored a hole thirty feet in circumference in the ground. At the same time, a similar package was sent to Senor Oscar Durante, the Editor of an Italian language' newspaper in Chicago. It was refused acceptance by his employees, and was hauled back and forth all day in the crowded .“Loop” District in a motor lorry before it could be apprehended by the police. The ItaPan Ambassador, De Martini, called on the State Department to-day, after which prompt measures were taken to protect Italian official representatives throughout the country from what is developing as one of the widest bomb plots ever discovered here. The police everywhere are being stationed in the homes of Italian representatives and prominent Italian-Americans in Chicago.

The police intercepted and successfully exploded four explosive packages in Chicago addressed to persons not revealed. Signor Durante and officers of the associated press are now attempting to head off a fifth bomb known to have been sent to "Consul Castruccio. Furthet bombs were also received by Italian Consuls at Detroit, Youngstones, and Ohio. Heavy guards were ret about the Itnl'an and Argentine Embassies at Washington.
