Described as a flawless crime, a registered packet of emeralds and diamonds, valued at £BOOO vanished under the eyes of the post office* detectives in the- course of its transit from Hatton,-Garden to Regent Street.. The theft was not discovered until the packet was delivered, when it was found to contain cotton wool insteal of jewels. It is believed that an international gang, one of whom was v disguised as a postman, was responsible.
