LATE LOCALS.

Christmas Day celebrations were well carried out at Westland Hospital on Friday last, when the Matron and staff had very complete arrangements made for the enjoyment of inmates. The various . wards were beautiflly decorated, the bright coloured paper decorations, and lanterns, with an abundance of flowers,' making the scene a very gay and festive one. There was a special tariff for the occasion, .ahcl.the patients and staff had quite a joyous day. The whole proceedings were very pdeasant. There were a large number of visitors during the afternoon, and the the bright decorations were §the subject of much favouarble comment, while the patients were loud in their expressions of appreciation at the very successful efforts of Matron Strongman and her staff to make the festive day one to be pleasantly remembered. At the Old People’s Home there were similar arrangements made, and the decorations and special treat arranged proved equally successful and enjoyable.
