BUSH FIRES
;danger continues. ... MANY DISTRICTS AFFECTED, (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, December 29th. The bush fires 111 the Wagga district continue'ttf’threaten further areas, in which rank dry grass is adjoining ripening wheat, which is in grave danger, dispite the strenuous efforts of large bodies of. men to cope with the flames. Other districts are suffering similarly owing to the dry weather. One hundred horses on Stirling Hill became panicked when the grass fires surrounded their enclosure, but the police and manager,cut the fences co release them. The township of Woodsidc, in South Australia, in hilly country was endangered by bush fires, but a fortunate change of wind averted disaster. ~ A good deal of damage has been done in various places, and a number of stock were burned.
