TRADE CONFERENCE

VIEWS BY CANADIANS. United Press Association. —By Electno Telegraph.—Copyright. 1 HONOLULU, Deecmber 25. Hon. W. D. Downie Stewart (N.Z.) Minister, and Hon. H. H. Stevens (Canadian Minister of Trade) arrived here on Friday to negotiate a trade agreement. Their preliminary meeting will be held on Saturday. HONOLULU, December 26. The New Zealand and Canadian Trade Delegations are beginning negotiations here to-day, but they said that the sessions would be secret, without any-announcement of the results until the Governments ratify them. MONTREAL, December 26. Mr W. H. Miner (President of the Canadian Manufacturers’ Association) in the course of an optimistic- statement in which he declared history will repeat itself, and that good times will come soon, said, in part: “J think Canada should get into the export business to even a greater extent. The Government ought to spend a lew thousand dollars and send men out to get business, and make trade treaties. I think we should try to get back that New Zealand business we lost. 1 believe it is a good tiling that Mr Stevens is going to negotiate a treaty with New Zealand. We can take their butter in winter when most of our cows are dry. .Is it not a better thing to export our butter in summer and buy New Zealand butter in winter than eat our own cold storage butter ? .
