It is understood that the appeals by the local authorities for funds to assist with. extra employment for the unemployed, lias not so far met- with a very substantial response. It is felt that more money will have to be found in the New Year, when the restriction of the unemplyoed funds is likely to be felt more stringently than now. Any help with contributions to the ■ local bodies will therefore be of service. It is understood funds for next week are fairly adequate, but for the following three weeks there will be a pinch, necessitating a good deal of rationing unless extra funds are forthcoming. From all acounts there are many families who can do with extra help at tills juncture, and as the heads of the households are anxious and willing to work, there is an obligation on those in a position to assist financially to do so- Now that the urgency of the position is made plain, it is hoped them will he a liberal response to assist in relieving the needs of the district unemployed.
