£SOOO CLAIM
AGAINST S.S. “PAKURA.” ... (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 21. Ail event unique in the history of Wellington, and one which aroused much interest on the waterfront, occurred this morning, when the Wei iington Harbour Board served;' a writ on the Richardson steamer “Pakura,'' claiming £SOOO as salvage. The Pakura struck a n unknown rock while she was approaching the Toro Landing, on the East Coast, on November 7th. She was towed off the rock the following day by the harbour tug “Toia,” which then towed her to Wellington. The Pakura was extensively damaged, and she spent three weeks on the patent slip, undergoing repairs. She left here -'on her first trip since the mishap last Tuesday, and returned to Wellington from Gisborne this morning.
Shortly after her arrival, the writ was solemnly attached to the Pakura’? foremast. The writ was a wordy legal document of extreme length,
