ASSAULT CHARGES

SAILOR DRUNK AT DANCE

PALMERSTON N., December 17,

As a result of a disturbance at a dance last night, a sailor residing in Palmerston North was charged in the iPoLioe Court this morning on two counts of assault. He was convicted and discharged,' conditional on his taking out a prohibition order. Senior-Bergeant Whitehouse said that defendant, who had had too much liquor, had gone to a dance, where he had been spoken to about his conduct. He hit one -man, to whom he later apologised, but after being warned by another man, Jennings, about h’-s conduct, he was asked to leave. Defendant had struck Jennings on .the ' cheek and, it was alleged, had bitten his ear severely. An application for the suppression of defendant's name was granted by Msesrs. Bosvvorth and Ashworth, J’s.P,
