Unknown to the pilot and mechanic, an exciting scene was enacted over the Channel in the cabin of an aeroplane flying from Ostend to Croydon. The passengers included a tiger and its trainer, coming to' appear at a performance in London. The tiger was making his first flight, and was most unhappy> He growled ferociously, and the trainer entered the cage to keep the animal company. The tiger shot out as soon as the door was opened, but did not attack anyone. . He just wrestled with the trainer who, with presence of mind, dashed hack into the cage with the tiger clinging to him, and he managed to unfasten the animal therein. The aeroplane had to descend at Penshurst owing to fog.
