STEAMER “BREEZE"

The Postmaster at Cheviot reported at 9.20 a.m. that the telephonist at Port Robinson had now stated that the Bi'eeze was ashore in the bay. > The crew are safe, while the sea is calm. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 18. The Breeze is under command of Captain M. McArthur and a crew of 1G signed on at "Wellington. She was going from Wellington to Lyttelton. TUG GOES TO HER ASSISTANCE. VESSEL ANCHORED OFF SHORE, CHRISTCHURCH, December 18. The tug “Lyttelton” leaves at noon to go to the assistance of the Breeze. Latest reports state that the Breeze was hedged off the beach at 9.30 o'clock this morning and is now anchored an Manulpt Bay, awaiting help. This bay is a mile south ol Port Robinson. Even though still close in, the vessel cannot be seen from the shore owing -to the dense fog, but messages can be heard from her crew who are still aboard. The original report ol' the loss of the propeller is apparently wrong. A message from Cheviot states that tlie crew of the Breeze are safe. Details are lacking, apart from the fact that there was an exceptionally heavy fog along the coast during the night.
