THE ANTARCTIC
REAR-ADMIRAL BYRD’S NEXT EXPEDITION. DUNEDIN, December 16. News of Rear-Admiral Byrd’s activities is contained in a letter which the Mayor (Mr R. S. Black) has received from the explorer himself. “Plans for our next expedition are under way, but on account of the great financial depression everywhere, I am not attempting to do very much this winter other than to get together some material,” writes Rear-Admiral Byrd. “Everyone at this time, I think, should give first consideration to the needs of the country and the unemployed. We have, however, got together about twenty tons of material which has been given by various firms. We will probably go to the Antarctic by the way of Dunedin, and I am looking forward with a great deal of pleasure to seeing you again. I would like ,to start on the expedition about next September. When I can give you, more detailed plans I shall write yon again.”
