TO REMEDY POSITION
N.B.W. INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, December 10. The Full Court, in a decision given to-day, declares that the Industrial Commission, as at present constituted, is ultra vires. The Full Court held that, since the resignation of Commissioner K. W. Street, on his elevation the Supreme Court Bench, the Deputy-Commissioner had no power to carry on the Commissioner’s functions and no jurisdiction to determine any matter affecting industrial awards. It is understood that the Government proposes immediate legislative measures to remedy the position. COMMUNIST CONVICTED. SYDNEY, Dledember 16. The Communist, Schelly (whose melee at Katoomba was cabled on December 13th) was convicted at Katoomba for riotous behaviour, and was ordered to enter into a recognisance to be of good behaviour for two years, or, in default, to undergo imprisonment, with hard labour, for two years.
