The Inspector of Fire Brigades Department wrote forwarding returns for the year ending March 31, 1931. A further letter was received re tire prevention drive. The Secretary, Mr, W. K. Gaylor reported that he had made an inspection of the borough in this/ connection. The Superintendent submitted his report as follows : Gentlemen.—Since your last meeting on July 15th., the Brigade has had five lire, calls. I am pleased to state that only one, Staines’ cottage fire, had serious results. This fire occurred about 11 o’clock on Sunday morning, August 2nd. There was no one in the house at the time, and although there were people living close by, the fire was not noticed till it had a good hold. On arrival of the Brigade, good work was done, and the building partly saved. Insurance on building, £430, on contents, £200,. in “State” and “Guardian” Offices. Recently a team under Deputy Ross went to the West Coast Competitions held at Westport, and practically cleaned the slate, having gained 59 points out of .a possible 68, bringing home with them several, of the most important prizes. There were nine Teams competing. The above speaks well for the efficiency of our men. Generally, the affairs of the Brigade are running along as usual. The membership is at full strength, and the good fellowship continues, I would be pleased if youi Board would agree to purchase a double headed Hydrant, with a stop-valve on ctach side ito cost about £l4. This (Hydrant would be useful to carry on the Motor. Wishing your Board the Season’s Greetings, 1 remain, Your faithfully, SUPT. J. J. McINTOSH. The treasurer reported that receipts for the period ended December 15, 1931 amounted to £236 10s 9d, and payments to £143 6s sd. There was a credit bai'ance of £5 9s lOd. It was decided to make a grant- of £5 to the Brigade.
