Ax the meeting of the Westland County Council yesterday, one of the members expressed the opinion that, h late statement in this paper in respect to an aerial mail service, Wellington to Hokitika and vice versa, was something of a canard. The critic is entirely wrong. Our statement was founded on fact, the definite statement of a well known air pilot- who is moving in the matter, and who desires some provision to be made for landing hero, if the proposed service is arrang'd- as contemplated. We repeat our statement of the position was entirely on the lines of the proposal actually in hatkl, and if the landing is prepared the aerial visit will come to pa.sM, Unfortunately tin- Council was not very enthusiastic about the matter yesterday, and jt would appear if Hokitika Is to receive the benefit in sight and be placed on the aerial map, then some other body must take up the matter. The County Council has accepted the site offered so generously by the Government, but there apparently action ends, as all expense to the Council is vetoed. It is to be regretted more practical interest fn the proposal was not shown yesterday. As a consequence of the negative attitude the town and district are likely to lose a golden opportunity in regard to aerial developments.
