WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD
MONDAY, DECEMBER 14th. Tile Board met at 8 p.m. Present: —Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), E>. W. Heenan, T. W. Duff, R. Meharry, A. R, Elcock, H. Wells, M. Keenan, and W. Evenden. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Hospitals, regretting that he w.-s unable to accede to the request to validate the grant to the Cancer Research Fund.— Received. The Sec-retai-y reported there was no necessity to take further action. From Same; in reference to Board’s desire to collect for maintenance nefore admission of patients in some instances/ and stating power could not be given.—Received.
From Hospitals Department, Wbllington, replying to reference to Westland Hospital in recent report to which exception wa s taken, and stating the report conveyed nothing derogatory to institution.—Received. From Minister of Health approving of proposal to sell some small sections at foot of Revell Street.—Received, Fiom Same, in reference to the bank overdraft required for the balance of the year.—Received. From Dt‘. Fletcher Telford, Christchurch, returning an account for treatment of patient stating the Board was responsible.—Received, From Hospital Boards Association conveying opinion in regard to claim for debts against a separate estate.— Received.
From Same, notifying annual conference to. be held at Timaru on Feb. 3rd.—Received.
From T. A. Johnston, Public Works Department, agreeing to collect subscription if men on public works jn South Westland agreed to payment of one shilling per week, a,nd to receive llree hospital treatment in return therefore.—Received. Proposal approved subject to list of names being supplied. From Dr. Mclntyife, reporting o,n patients in .Sanatorium.—Received. From C. J. Sellers, forwarding copy of application for three prospecting licenses by H. Jones over 300 acres portion of reserve for aged miners at Labe Mahinapua.—Received and referred! to a committee consisting of Messrs Heenan, Breeze and Elcock to deal witli.
From G. Small, applying for annual leave. Received and request granted. From Mis s M. Boyd, applying for annual leave.—Reahved aaid request granted. Letters in connection with unemployment were received. REPORTS. From Surgeon Superintendent, Westland Hospital, reporting the patients in hospital on Nov. Ist. numbered 21. Admitted during the month, 25 males, 13 females. Total treated, 3? males, 22 females—s 9. Discharged, cured, 15 males, 9 females—24; relieved, 1 male; died, 1 male; Total discharged, 26. In hospital 30th. Nov., 20 males, 13 fe* males—33. In hospital for jtwo months, 6 males, 5 femalea—ll,—Re* ceivecl.
Accounts amounting to £416 6s 3d were passed for payment. The tender of Mr E. McMurtie for the supply of fish for the hospital was iccepted. The Treasurer reported receipts £BSO 8s 4-d, payments £769 10s 10d. Credit balance £428 2s 4d.—Received. IN COMMITTEE.
The Board resolved into Committee
The Auditor General returned the balance sheet certified to.—Received. Messrs W. J. Jeffries and G, DavI idson forwarded their resignations as I members of the Board.—Received and accepted. Westland County Council to be notified of the vacancies. The Chairman moved that all minutes of the Board .since 10:5:30 ne ratified as read and confirmed. Seconded by Mr Duff and carried. The next meeting of the Board was fixed for Jan. 18th. The Board resumed and confirmed the resolutions. The Chairman stating this was the last meeting of the Board for the year, conveyed his appreciation of the assistance given during the year and wished all members a. happy Chirstmas and prosperous New Year. The Board rose at 10 p.m.
